While you may think that your penis cannot break because it contains no bone, the sad truth is that it can break and about 1,500 broken penis cases are reported each year.  If you get a broken penis, you will know it.  The pain is horrendous and something you are not likely to overlook.  

A broken penis usually occurs in the middle of sexual intercourse.  Your penis is most vulnerable when it is fully erect.  This is when the ligaments and skin of your penis is stretched to the limit.  At this point, if a hard object were to hit your penis, it could be disastrous.  The hard object is usually your wife or girlfriend who is sitting on top of you. Most cases of penile fracture occur when a couple is having intercourse and the woman is on top of the man.  During the act, you may slip out of your wife or girlfriend and before you get back in, she lands on top of your penis in the wrong way.  

A snap will be heard if you break your penis and you will experience jolting pain.  This is a medical emergency as an untreated broken penis can lead to many different complications including permanent erectile dysfunction.  You will have to cover yourself up and get to the emergency room.  

Although the penis can break, it cannot break off.  In no case of broken penis is the skin damaged.  The ligaments are torn.  This requires surgery and some time for “rest.”  Surgery to repair a broken penis is almost always successful and you will be good as new and back to normal in a few weeks time.  

There is no way to avoid getting a penile fracture, unless you want to limit sexual intercourse.  As incidents of a broken penis are rare, you are most likely better off to go about your business and know what to do in case such an incident occurs.
